HAUTE SAVOIE, FRANCE
ROUTE DE LA PIERRE DU NANT
2018-2021
Located in the Grand Massif on the edge of the Haute Savoie region in the French Alps, the project combines two apartments to form a large family chalet as a multi-generational home.
Starting with the reconfiguration and internal refurbishment, the chalet has been extended further to accommodate garage storage space, two new bedrooms as a separate suite and a generous living area placed to enjoy unobstructed views over the mountain valley.
The project incorporates natural locally-sourced materials to reflect the character of its context and meet the requirements of the local municipality. Local tradespeople were carefully selected for the delivery of the project to ensure quality in construction and invest in the local economy.
The design was successful in providing generous living space within a relatively small footprint utilising space-saving built-in storage and cleverly positioned bathrooms. The brief was centered around the idea of families coming together to share holidays whilst enabling a sense of individuality and privacy during their stay. Acting as a holiday let was also an important requirement, the design had to be robust and sustainable in minimising waste; materials were re-used through each phase of the project.
