Proposals include the comprehensive re-modeling of an existing house within Knaresborough's conservation area, the scheme is set into the cliffside overlooking the banks of the River Nidd. The design draws reference from the Case Study House Program with single-storey, open-plan living space throughout the main house. The scheme features a large terrace with views over the river and beyond as well as a studio set into the steep site.
The scheme will radically upgrade the performance of the house in terms of energy efficiency, ventilation and heating systems. Massive Architecture worked closely with the client to develop the brief in great detail. The scheme is contemporary in its style with features that are respectful to the character of the conservation area.
The overriding concept is to create a home set into the tree canopy which maximises the site’s location and special character.
